1. Welcome!

 Hi, my name is Kris and I am a breast cancer survivor. I am a year out from my initial mammogram where something was off.

As I reflect on and celebrate the milestones of my journey, I wanted to document them in a blog.

This is my story, my journey. I tend to speak in humorous and sarcastic tones - this blog will be no different. 

I am not going to make light of my experience but I am also not going to change how I communicate.

It will be raw, dark and sometimes a little sweary.

Picture it: March 2020, I was sent home from work for 'two weeks', living in a marriage that was on its last legs, and mentally and emotionally preparing for my son's high school graduation and impending  transition to college. The world had stopped but my cortisol production was in overdrive. So when my left boob started to ache at night, I was kind of busy with anxiety and overthinking. 16. The One with the Giving of Thanks

 Last time we left off with me in a regular room waiting to be sprung. As anyone who has had surgery and had the pleasure of spending time post-surg knows they will not let you go anywhere until you have peed. And this trip was no exception. The one challenge was that those leg massagers were still in place and I couldn't move with them. I was still pretty numb all over so no pain to contend with but I did start to have a mini panic attack when I realized I wouldn't be able to move if needed. As you may recall from the 'that radiologist left me half stuck in a tube' story, I need to know how I can evacuate a situation post haste if needed. I pinged the nurse and she came in a few minutes later. Apparently they didn't realize that the VERY LOUD WHIRRING NOISE EMINATING FROM MY BED WAS THE LEG MASSAGERS. and they were promptly removed. 14. The One with the Mastectomy Part 2

 It has been a hot minute since I last posted. I went and got a boyfriend and a certificate in Persuasive Leadership. In that order. But I am ready to take us through the last of the attempted death by body part story. Last time we left off with me at the hospital getting ready for the mastectomy and reconstruction. The nurse loaded me into a wheel chair for a final trip down to the basement to have that oh so helpful radiologist inject dye into the boob to light the way (RIP Lefty). At this point we were running an hour behind the expected schedule because something had come up for the surgeons. Which was fine by me. I wasn't wearing a watch or looking at my phone intentionally. Time should not matter in that type of situation. It was out of my control and I was giving it over to the people who knew what they were doing.
